One of my favoire hobbies...

For as long as I can remember, trains have been one of the most fascinating things in the world. My dad collected model trains and his dad collected model trains. Our collection of Lionel trains spans probably 50 years or more. Naturally, collecting model trains became a primary hobby of mine.
A good number of years ago, while attending the Greenberg's Great Train Show in Balitmore, my dad and I were walking around and heard this guy speaking of these trains that were made for indoors and outdoors. He claimed they could run in rain, snow and any other kind of weather. I was about 14 at the time and I was amazed. There were these trains running around the display he was standing on and they were called L.G.B. trains. The L.G.B. stood for some names that I couldn't pronounce at the time, but to someone my age it didn't matter. The bigger the better and even though the trains were models of european trains, and I didn't particularly like those, I was hooked.
It's now many years later and G scale trains, the scale of those LGB's, are my favorite trains to collect. Of course, this presents a slight problem... they're sort of expensive and they need a lot of room to run. These aren't like HO trains where you can set up an entire railroad empire on a few sheets of 4x8 plywood... these trains were made to run in all sorts of weather for a reason... they almost have to be outside.
On this page, you will find some of my favorite train links, as well as some pictures of my temporary layout. When I get the time and the supplies together to start it, I plan on creating a modest outdoor layout. I will post pictures as the construction goes on. As you will probably guess from my pictures, I collect mainly the Santa Fe railroad, but my collection expanding to other roadnames. My two favorite trains are The Central Railroad of New Jersey Blue Comet and the Santa Fe Super Chief.
